Legendary hip-hop producer/MC Diamond D is poised for a monster 2014 with his prior-announced compilation album coming soon. He has officially launched his imprint, Dymond Mine Records (DMR), and the first release will come from Atlanta-based indie vet, BIGREC. The New Orleans-born, Oklahoma-bred emcee recently made his label debut with DoomsDay, a 13-track album produced exclusively by Diamond D. The album features notable guest appearances from R.A. the Rugged Man, soulful vocalist Blake Moses, and members of ATL supergroup TH5PENTAGON.
Originally geared for a late 2012 release during the world's fascination with the "end of days," DoomsDay signified an "end of the world" for wack emcees. Along the way, the additional theme of a return to balance in hip-hop developed, or as the title track states, 'more talent, less acting; more substance, less flashing.' "With this project, we wanted to return focus to making classic music," REC said, "and highlight an appreciation for a full body of work in a single-driven industry."
BIGREC has been a staple in the Atlanta & Oklahoma indie hip-hop scenes, respectively, after several project releases and nominal radio airplay in the mid-south region; but his commanding, high-energy live show has set him apart and caught the attention of industry notables, one being the D.I.T.C. founder. Says Diamond, "REC is part of the new school of emcees out there, but he still has classic hip-hop sensibilities. That made me gravitate toward him, I don't gravitate toward nothing I don't believe in 100%."
REC's music also caught the ear of another hip-hop legend, DJ Premier, who broke his Diamond D-produced record "Bullseye" on Sirius satellite radio. Since then, the single & its corresponding Tommy Nova-directed video have garnered rave reviews. He recently completed a successful indie promotional tour throughout Florida & Louisiana, with the final show ending in Miami.

The first show introduced Atlanta artists to the Tampa Bay scene, and was received with overwhelming support. The word is that the Atlanta showcase will follow in March bringing out the Tampa artists to Atlanta's fan base. Here's some information from their previous press release.
"This is not just another rap show, but rather the next step in the evolution of Hip Hop events. Rather than relying on promoters or so-called tastemakers to deem them worthy, A2BAY is fueled and funded by the artists themselves.
Joe Stu, Imagiin360 and Infinite Skillz lead this enterprising group that aims to create a pipeline between Atlanta and the Tampa Bay area.
A2BAY will connect these two Hip Hop hotbeds and shed light on the emerging talent these areas have to offer. It provides unencumbered space for fans throughout the Southeast, one of the most fertile Hip Hop regions, to gain greater access to the music powering this entrepreneurial movement."- A2Bay Press Release (December 2012)
